Case Study

Johnny and June is an Oklahoma City indie gift shop and candle brand that my wife and I own and have operated since 2016 — a curated, personality-driven retail space with a loyal local following. As the co-owner and designer, I built the entire brand from the ground up with my wife and have designed every visual touchpoint the business has ever used.

The work covers the full brand ecosystem: logo and visual identity, Shopify website, packaging for our hand-poured candle line, custom packaging for clients, event marketing for shop activations and trade shows, physical signage, merchandising strategy, and all ongoing marketing materials. Every piece was designed to feel cohesive — a customer who discovered us on Instagram, walked into the shop, picked up a product, and took home a bag would encounter the same visual world at every single step.

What this project represents more than anything is the difference between designing for a client and designing as an owner. Every design decision had a real consequence — on foot traffic, on sales, on how the brand was perceived in the community. That accountability is personal and produces truly intentional design.

The results:

  • Grew wholesale stockists to 800+ accounts across the world

  • Hit six figures in revenue in the first full year

  • Landed product placement in Whole Foods, Pioneer Mercantile (custom candles), and the Will Rogers International Airport
